Ryder Cup: Captain Phil's Gamble Pays Off

Jaime Diaz of Golf World steps back not only from the week but considers the 2016 Ryder Cup in the context of Phil Mickelson's career. He declares that Mickelson's many gambles, which probably won't have him taking texting with Tom Watson or sipping margaritas with Hal Sutton anytime soon, paid off.

At GolfDigest.com, I look at Phil's play at this week and namely, Sunday's stunning 10-birdie match with buddy Sergio Garcia. While it ended in a halve, an ugly loss to Sergio along with a sorry U.S.A. performance might have damaged his legacy. Now he's playing better Ryder Cup golf than ever and will be targeting a 2018 roster spot in France to put his name atop several records.

Bob Harig at ESPN.com writes that Mickelson's week and legacy could be all summed up best in the leap following his incredible birdie at 18 (matched just as incredibly by Sergio).
