A Word About The TPC Sawgrass' Perfectly Imperfect Greens
/It's a bit depressing how many comments have been directed at the imperfect looking and off-color look of TPC Sawgrass' bermudagrass greens, even though we've been through this the last few years at The Players. Trust me, these greens are stunning to putt.
Considering how vital these more disease resistant strains of grass are to the future of the game in warm climates, those finding it hard to believe the TPC Sawgrass greens are so good should read the course's agronomy blog for an explanation.
The Tour Report blog at PGATour.com summed up the "issue":
The color of the greens is secondary to the conditions, and the players seem quite satisfied with how the greens are rolling.
On his Twitter account, Stewart Cink was asked about the color of the greens. His observation: “For some reason the greens here at TPC Sawgrass aren’t very pretty through television. In person they are close to perfect.”
Ian Poulter said the greens “are the best I’ve ever seen them” after shooting his opening-round 65.
Ben Crane added that “these greens are so pure that if you get the ball on line, you’re going to make some putts.”
