"Until someone sat them down and explained that they did something wrong, they didn't have any idea."
/I didn't pay much attention to the Bethany College golf team's suspension over its homage to UCLA's Joe McNally nude shot from a few years back, but then it kept popping up on local newscasts and has now become one of those strange little non-stories with legs.
So I read Shane Bacon's account and another story, which left me with two burning questions:
A) What is a Fighting Swede? (That's Bethany's mascot.)
B) What is a small college doing with a 14 or 15-man (depending on which report you read) golf team?
And I did chuckle at the AD's attempt to oversell what is nothing more than young lads trying to liven up an otherwise dull Kansas day:
Jon Daniels suspended every player on the Fighting Swedes for three tournaments because of the photo he called, "a case of young people who just don't think beyond the moment and don't realize who they're hurting."
"Until someone sat them down and explained that they did something wrong, they didn't have any idea," Daniels said. "But I think they understand now."
