Fine, Let Scotland Have It's Moment...

Humor John Huggan and our friends in Scotland with their one-two win weekend. I'm sure there are some old Scots lamenting that two of their products just had to win on the same day after a long drought post-Monty's prime.

From this week's Pond Scrum with Steve Elling:

Huggan: Sunday was a bit like waiting for a London bus for we Scots. We go years without any sort of real success, then two wins come along at once. Amazing and welcome.

Elling: Seriously, other than Laird, is there a can't-miss kid on the horizon? Maybe the win by Lawrie, who runs a nice junior program, will give the game a boost and rekindle the fire.

Huggan: We haven't had much to cheer about lately. And we've been forced to listen to how well all these Englishmen are playing. Which is true. But I'm tired of hearing it. Especially when Luke Donald is half Scottish.

Elling: I will admit that, for a while, I thought that English gent Justin Rose was going to wreck the Scottish victory parade, which would have had you looking for a rope and a tall tree.

Huggan: There is a lot to commend about Lawrie. As you say, his junior program is the model for any pro looking to use his celebrity to maximum advantage in his home area. Justin Rose from South Africa you mean (he was actually born there) Did I mention that Lee Westwood's wife is Scottish?

Elling: I'm trying to think of a prominent American pro who runs junior programs nationally. Like Lee Westwood, Paul Lawrie, Nick Faldo do in the U.K. Another reason why U.S. fortunes have petered out somewhat as far as the world rankings.

Huggan: It would be nice to see some of your pros putting back into the game in such a fashion, especially if they can get non-country club kids involved in the game. By the way, I have it on good authority that Ian Poulter once visited Scotland.
