Golf Channel Unveils Details Behind New Margins Enhancement Program

Wait, I mean, the "Announcer Lite" broadcast of this week's Albertsons Boise Open, which the network insists is not a preview of leaner, meaner more profitable broadcasts to come.

Broadcast Notes:

·         Golf Channel Goes “Announcer-Lite” on Saturday – Golf Channel’s live coverage on Saturday will take a unique approach.  The network will allow the action to unfold while limiting their traditional play-by-play comments.  Host Jerry Foltz and analyst Curt Byrum will interact with viewers via GolfChannel.com, Twitter and Facebook throughout Saturday’s telecast.  On-course reporters Kay Cockerill and Stephanie Sparks will abandon the traditional role of following specific groups and be positioned at “interview stations” at the difficult par-3 13th hole and the drive able par-4 15th at Hillcrest Country Club.  Phil Parkin will be dispatched to the practice tee and putting green to give viewers live lessons on what players work on after a round of golf on the Nationwide Tour. During the action, enhanced audio will be captured by additional on-course microphones, allowing viewers to eavesdrop on conversations between players and caddies, and enhanced on-screen statistical and biographical graphics will supplement the absence of commentary.

·         Viewers to interact with Nationwide Tour Alums – During Saturday’s live telecast, viewers will have the opportunity to submit questions to several Nationwide Tour alums who are scheduled to call-in during the telecast.  Viewers can submit questions via GolfChannel.com, Golf Channel’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.

·         Nationwide Tour Player Mic’d Up – Golf Channel expects to place a microphone on a Nationwide Tour player from one of the final three groups during Saturday’s live tournament coverage.  Viewers will be able to hear select conversations between the player and his caddie throughout the telecast.

·         Look Who’s In the Truck – Peter Tomasulo: Peter Tomasulo will trade in his golf clubs to sit in Golf Channel’s live tournament production truck for the Look Who’s In the Truck featured segment during Friday.  Tomasulo will work alongside the tournament’s production team as an associate director, assisting producer Keith Hirshland and director Pete Esposito.  Friday’s coverage also will feature the Caddie Knows Best segment.

Okay the truck segment sounds lame, but the other stuff should prove interesting.
