Final U.S. Open Sectional Wrap-Up And A Question

To recap, here is the official USGA results page and Golfweek's one page roundup of qualifiers and notable misses. There are also a couple of key stories linked in posts below this one worth checking out. And if you want to look at individual scorecards, some of the links here will take you to live scoring sites.

Elsewhere...

D.J. Piehowski reports on the qualifier in Woodstock, Illinois, where Bennett Blakeman made it and Corey Pavin missed. But at least he tried!

Here's an AP roundup on Justin Rose missing, with quotes from Rickie Fowler about missing out on a trip to Pebble Beach.

Rob Matre offers his images from a Georgia qualifier, with a special focus on qualifier Russell Henley that tells the tale of his special day.

And don't miss Jim McCabe's excellent wrap-up from Columbus, where losing in a playoff even left Rocco Mediate heartbroken and speechless.

Now, if you read the above stories or check out the images, it's hard to imagine a better day on the golf calendar. Yet I've been hearing plenty of grumbling that the USGA gives out way too many spots to qualifying and not enough exemptions for ranked players or winners of tour events.

I say the opposite. There should be as many or more spots than they have now. For every deserving Fowler or Rose, there's a Compton.
