"Pure and simple, it is disrespectful to The King."

Adam Schupak of Golfweek wonders where all of the American stars are this week to pay tribute to the man who helped paved the way for the modern pro game.

He writes of the lackluster American lineup at Bay Hill:

All told, only eight of the 22 top-ranked Americans are in the field: Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, Kevin Kisner, Matt Kuchar, Billy Horschel, Ryan Moore, Robert Streb, and Smylie Kaufman.

Other Ryder Cup hopefuls who are MIA include Bill Haas, J.B. Holmes, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Justin Thomas, Jimmy Walker, and sadly the list goes on and on. Pure and simple, it is disrespectful to The King.

Peter Jacobsen, 62, a regular here for years and on site this week as a member of the NBC Sports broadcast team, brings a veteran’s perspective.

“If I had the opportunity to play in a tournament with the name of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus or Byron Nelson, the men who made the Tour what it is, I’d be there whether I liked the course or not,” he said. “Heck if Gary Player had a tournament I’d play that too.”

Some of the blame here certainly goes to moving the match play event to within two weeks of the Masters. Though it's not stroke play, the easy WGC points and money two weeks from the Masters made it a must-play stop. Perhaps at the expense of The King's tournament.
