Patrick Rodgers Secures His PGA Tour Status...

...now he just needs more sponsor's exemptions. But the hard part was accomplished Sunday at the Memorial, as the Stanford grad, former Walker Cupper and 2014 Nicklaus Award winner birdied his last two holes Sunday (after a 16th hole triple bogey) for a final round 73. His T40, 286 was just good enough to secure the nine FedExCup points necessary to secure conditional status.

Rodgers left Stanford early and has earned his way to the tour via good play on sponsor's invites. While the PGA Tour will point to this as another successful example of the post-Q-School avenue to the Show, Rodgers has had to play some exceptional golf to earn the right to ask for more sponsors invites the rest of this year. Still, it's another sign of his immense talent and validation of his decision to turn pro early.

Sean Martin reports on Rodgers' stressful but ultimately successful effort.

Rodgers, 22, got within reach of temporary membership with his T2 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. He needed just nine more FedExCup points to reach the threshold for temporary membership, but earned just one point in his next two starts. He missed the 54-hole cut at the Crowne Plaza Invitational presented by Colonial and the 36-hole cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

His next task is earning his TOUR card for the 2015-16 season. Rodgers also won earlier this year on the Web.com Tour and is No. 6 on that circuit’s money list. That will give him a backup plan in case he does not finish in the top 125 on this season’s FedExCup standings. He arrived at Memorial with 315 FedExCup points, which would’ve ranked him 115th in the FedExCup standings at the start of the week.

Rodgers also dunked a ball this week at the house he was staying out. So he's got that going for him. Ken Griffin tweeted it. Follow the link to see the video.
