Scottish Open Heading To Trump Scotland In '17, '19 & '20?
/Thanks to Ru Macdonald at the Scottish Golf Podcast for sharing Paul Third’s Press and Journal story on Trump International Scotland possibly landing the Scottish Open in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
Visually, it will be spectacular on television, but not quite the full links tune-up that Gullane (2015), Castle Stuart (2016 host) or Royal Aberdeen (2014) provided. And much more of an endurance test. This also potentially puts a wrinkle in the developing rota that had the event moving around Scotland.
From Third's report:
But the Press and Journal understands plans to take the tournament to the west coast of Scotland after the Highlands have been delayed following a successful pitch from the American billionaire, pictured right, to the tournament sponsors, the European Tour and the Scottish Government.
**A PA report speaking to tournament director Peter Adams suggests no deal is done.
‘Trump International is one of a number of clubs with which the Tour has been in conversation,’ he said.
