Homeless Woman Adds Wrinkle To Allenby's Mugging Account

An unbylined 9News story from Australia claims to have interviewed the homeless woman in Robert Allenby's story and she says she came upon him not six miles away from the bar, but around the corner.

And Allenby was offering money to get his belongings back, an element to his story not previously mentioned. He also mentions that people "get jealous."

The Hawaiian woman told 9NEWS Allenby offered $500 to get his belongings back, but the men became aggressive and Allenby was put into a taxi by a passerby.

It conflicts with the account given by Allenby earlier in the day, when he said he was stuffed in a car boot and dumped in a park 10km away.

In this interview with The Age, other details emerge from Allenby including just what a fan he is of the Taken films.

You know, I watched Taken quite a few times and it kind of felt pretty much the same as that. I just, very surreal, yeah.

And in talking to the Sydney Morning Herald, he said he has been careful when going out...

"I think if you're a professional athlete or any type of celebrity status I think you always have to be careful," he said.

"I always try to stay to really nice establishments. I don't go out drinking and party and stuff, I don't go to nightclubs. I try and stick to the ... classy areas because I feel like you've always got to be careful."

Asked whether he believed he was targeted because he was a golfer, Allenby said he was not sure.

"There was a lot of fuss when I was in the restaurant, in the bar area. You know, people saying 'Oh, that's Robert Allenby, he's a famous golfer', and blah blah blah, and that kind of maybe drew some attention for someone," Allenby said.
