Texas Tech Senior Lands Masters Spot With LAAC Win
/The Latin America Amateur Championship intially produced this short wire story on Matias Dominguez's 11-under par, 277 win at Pilar Golf Club. (A longer story appeared on the official site eight or so hours later.)
The win in the inaugural event lands the Texas Tech senior a spot in the Masters as well as the U.S. Amateur and The Amateur Championship. Rex Hoggard notes the improbable nature of the win, as Dominguez was the 421st ranked amateur and is 293rd ranked college golfer.
Dominguez was emotional after the win:
“It’s a shock right now. Everything is just going crazy and my family, everybody was just crying. So many emotions,” Dominguez said. “As a young golfer my dream was to play the Masters. That was my last goal as a golfer. Hopefully I can share this moment with my friends and family.”
