Alabama Wins! When's Too Long To Leave An Opponent Hanging?

The first NCAA men's golf championship with the made-for-TV match play component to be televised lived up to the hype with a closer-than-it-looked win 4-1 win by Alabama over Oklahoma State, though it was the sportsmanship of OSU that stood out as Alabama celebrated a thrilling Trey Mullinex eagle putt to clinch the win.

The unbylined AP game story from the day focuses on Mullinex's big putt and the Golf Channel postgame show also centered around the winning putt.

On YouTube a poster put the winning putt sequence up. While you never want to discourage the exuberance that provided reminder #4011 that match play is just more dramatic, the poster notes the "Putt goes in at 5 seconds, handshake with opponent at 47 seconds. Caught my eye...poor OSU guy left on the green with his cap off waiting for a handshake."

It's hard to knock Mullinex for celebrating the moment with all of the people who crashed the green, including all but one teammate.

So instead, how about a tip of the cap to OSU's Ian Davis for so impressively waiting with his hat off to shake his opponent's hand.
