The Donald Is Closing In On Turnberry Purchase
/Trump International Turnberry? Almost some nice alliteration there.
And we wonder why Peter Dawson is retiring!
Oh and I suspect Portrush is looking better to the R&A every day.
Sorry, getting ahead of ourselves.
The Telegraph's James Corrigan reports that Donald Trump is closing in on a purchase of legendary western Scotland resort Turnberry for £35 million from current owners Leisurecorp (Dubai).
Dubai bought the resort – which includes two other courses as well as a golf academy, a five-star hotel and lodge and cottage accommodations – for £52 million and when Tom Watson almost won the following year’s Open there, bringing yet more exposure to the layout on the rugged coastline overlooking the Firth of Clyde, it seemed good business.
Turnberry is not currently scheduled to host The Open, though oddly, sites have only been announced through 2016 when Royal Troon hosts. Turnberry last hosted The Open in 2009 when Stewart Cink beat Tom Watson in a playoff.
**We talked about The Donald's possible purchase on Morning Drive today. The blogosphere is rejoicing, needless to say.
