Free Golf & Swag: Indicted Governor McDonnell's Undoing?
/John Strege has perused the felony indictment against former Virginia governor Robert McDonnell and his wife.
Strege reports that golf plays a big part of the charges, which sound like a day in the life of a...oh I won't go there.
The word "golf" turns up 25 times in the indictment, which states that McDonnell accepted "$2,380 in greens fees, caddie fees, merchandise, and dining expenses at Kinloch Golf Club [in Manakin-Sabot, Va.]" on one occasion and "1,424 in greens fees, caddie fees, merchandise and dining expenses at Kinloch Golf Club" on another occasion.
Among the items subject to forfeiture should the couple be convicted, according to the indictment, include two pairs of golf shoes, six golf shirts, three golf bags and two sets of golf clubs.
McDonnell was considered a longshot pick for Mitt Romney's ticket in 2012.
**From the end of Trip Gabriel's NY Times story:
Although Mr. McDonnell said he had returned all the gifts, the indictment includes a list of property that he and his wife would be required to forfeit if they are convicted. The list includes Mr. McDonnell’s silver Rolex, two gold Oscar de la Renta dresses, an Armani jacket and matching dresses, two pairs of Foot Joy golf shoes, a baby blue striped Peter Millar golf shirt, a Ping Kinloch golf bag, two sets of golf clubs, two iPhones and 30 boxes of Anatabloc.
