Rainy Day Reading Fun: Golf Channel & Other Cable Ratings
/I see it's another beautiful day in the most important time zone on the planet, so while you watch the rain and thunder and Henrik Stenson remind us of the limited appeal of limited field events, I have some fun optional reading material for your consideration.
Thanks to read dbh for Son of the Bronx, a blog devoted to revealing (A) that not many people are watching the Premier League (B) way too many are watching Ultimate Fighting on Fox Sports 1, and (C) that the PGA Tour is delivering really nice numbers for Golf Channel and its Pre/Postgame shows.
Bronx posts ratings all the way back to February 2013 for the major cable sports networks, but since this is a golf blog I'll only link to the Golf Channel posts and note recent weeks.
Golf Channel September 9-15 where the Viewership average in
Prime Time (8 p.m. to 11 p.m.)/Total Day (6 a.m. to 5:59 a.m.) was 97,000/115,000
, compared to the previous week of 94,000/69,000
and a year prior: 88,000/45,000
Golf Channel Sept 2-8 (Note that Sunday Walker Cup live coverage drew only about 84,000 viewers, so much for the 147,000 coming from the Chiquita Classic. Also note the strong number for early Deutsche Bank coverage and strong numbers for Morning Drive and the Pre-Game show.)
Golf Channel August 26-Sept 1 (Rougher than usual week for the Product Showcases! Nice numbers from the Barclays and great to see a nice sized number watching In Play With Jimmy Roberts and its assorted re-airings.)
Golf Channel August 12-18th includes the Solheim Cup numbers
Golf Channel August 5-12 was PGA Championship week, so you can see how their morning and Live From shows do working around coverage on a network, as well as the Grey Goose 19th Hole with yours truly, Fay and Feinstein (187,000 total viewers)
