Trying To Move On From Oscillategate
/In the polling here, a slight majority felt Tiger's ball moved out of position and therefore the two-stroke penalty he received for Friday's violation was appropriate.
Nearly as many of you either didn't see the ball move or could not make a definitive call. A similar set of views dotted the SI PGA Tour Confidential this week, though there seemed to be consensus that upon watching the replay, Tiger should have plead guilty.
Where does this leave us? It seems about half the golfing public thinks Tiger is a cheater who will do anything to get an edge, while the other half just thinks he's either very unlucky, a victim of constant camera coverage or not very sharp when it comes to the rules. Or some combination of the three.
Put me down in the grey division, as I just don't see this as a blatant attempt to cheat nor do I think his third major rules violation of the year reflects well on him.
But in the interests of his image, the game and his own game, Tiger could do himself a huge favor by showing up at a USGA rules school this winter to brush up on the fundamentals. Not only would it be productive for his game, but also for his image.
