Bridgestone Blues: Scott, Mickelson Admit This Week Is A Tune Up

At best!

Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson went up several notches in my book for admitting that the cash grab, OWGR points grab, no-cut, no-interest golf course at Firestone provides little more than a walk in the park to get ready for the PGA…and that's the nicest thing said about this annual black hole on the PGA Tour calendar.

From the AP account of Mickelson's opening round:

"Today I had a hard time focusing," said Mickelson, who missed 3-foot par putts on the sixth and seventh holes. "Mentally I wasn't sharp. I could tell I was a little bit tired or I just wasn't able to see the shot clearly. I just had a hard time visualizing and seeing the shot today."

Translation: get me to next week ASAP!

And from Ben Everill's account of Adam Scott's opening 73.

"This week was always going to be seeing where I was at," Scott said.

But Adam, it's a World Championship! Of something.
