This Week In Golf Channel Ratings: WGC Nabs A .2, Still Can't Beat Champions Tour, Big Break Or Long Drive
/Golf Channel was up nicely over a year ago (99,000 v. 60,000 prime time, 89,000 v. 50,000 the rest of the day) in spite of the wet sweater that is wraparound calendar PGA Tour golf!
The PGA Tour's WGC-HSBC did deliver an extra tenth of a rating point on live broadcast and replays compared to last week's event in Malaysia. But even with big names like Johnson, Poulter, McDowell, Garcia, Rose and McIlroy on the first page, a WGC airing in West Coast primetime still couldn't get more viewers than the Saturday and Sunday Champions Tour broadcasts (Schwab Cup fever!), Big Break NFL or the World Long Drive's first-ever live broadcast.
Thankfully, HSBC is an international company that doesn't need a small market like the USA to justify putting up $10 million for a week of golf in glorious Shanghai!
Also interesting were some nice numbers for Morning Drive on Saturday morning, followed by the Thursday and Friday telecasts.
Thanks as always to Son of the Bronx for posting the numbers.
