Commish On WTF: "The players were into it, the fans were into it"

It's always nice to get that reassurance when you think that maybe you've lost touch with society, you can always just read a Tim Finchem press conference--this one to give the PGA Tour Courage Award to the amazing Erik Compton.

But before introducing Compton, Commissioner Samaranch spoke in the clipped sentences of an especially assured man who is glad not to be Roger Goodell these days (or one who's been talking to W. too much lately).

Conclusion of last season led to the final events o the Web.com Tour tour.  Fifty cards generated on regular season play on the Web.com Tour and the finals.  We like the way that played out.  Seemed to be a good combination.  We'll probably find some things we want to tweak, but the players were into it, the fans were into it.

And I think one of the things we said all along is it would believe great to get a little higher profile to that drama that we've seen over the years at the qualifying school and get it into that final Web.com event.  That's certainly what's happened.  So we're pleased about that.

Just a little refresher, more people watched a tape-delayed Champions Tour event on that dramatic final Web.com Tour Final Sunday when 73,000 tuned in. And by PGA Tour standards, a shocking number of players were not very complimentary of the system. Oh, and Phil Blackmar punched some big holes in the system that needs more than the tweaks mentioned by Commissioner Juan Antonio.
