Haunting Video: Tony Jacklin On Strictly Come Dancing

The Telegraph's Des Lynam wonders "what on earth possessed Tony Jacklin CBE, pushing 70 and carrying a little bit of weight, to appear on that refuge of soap actors and newsreaders" known as Strictly Come Dancing.

Lynman writes:

Did he need the money?

Surely not. Was he clutching at another run at fame? I cannot imagine. Perhaps he had that Astaire movie in mind. Now he was in an alien land where camp judges would call him “darling” and discuss his merits as a 'hoofer’ as though any of it mattered.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the show and have been a 'Brucie’ fan all my life, but Jacklin should have been protected from himself. I am surprised that Sir Bruce, a keen golfer and I am sure an admirer of Jacklin’s status in the modern history of the sport, did not have a word with him and warn him the programme might not have been for him. Loyalty to his BBC masters perhaps?

You'll never look at Tony Jacklin the same again:
