Slow Play Gone Bad Redux: Marshal Pushed For Group To Play Through "Ain't right" Golfer
/You may recall the February slow play incident where a threesome tried to play through a foursome and things turned ugly, with Clay Carpenter stabbed in the group going through, nearly losing his life and still in danger of losing part of his leg.
Now thanks to Pete Finch's Tweet, we learn from Courthouse News' David Lee that victim Clay Carpenter, who is suing The Resort Golf Club, was told to play through the group by a marshal even though the marshal suggested that the eventual assailant, Roy Vinson, appeared unstable.
Carpenter say his threesome never asked to play through the foursome ahead, but were content to play as they were.
Nonetheless, he says, the course's "golf pro/golf course marshall insisted they play through ... because there were empty holes ahead."
Carpenter says the golf pro/marshall asked them to wait until he cleared it with the foursome.
"After a period of time, the golf pro/marshall returned and stated the threesome could play through," the complaint states. "The golf pro/marshall then stated 'One of them up there ain't right.'"
It sounds a bit silly, but could a decision for Carpenter have ramifications for marshals in the future?
