Observations And Images From Monday At The Open
/Greetings from the 2012 Ralph Lauren Open Championship Presented By Doosan, where a Chamber of Commerce weather greeted competitors and media alike. A somewhat miserable day was had by all!
On a serious note, the course is slow and lush, but at least it's playing nice and long to mask the miserable regulatory work of our hosts this week. The rough is silly in spots, mostly due to the wet summer but I'd also contend due to management philosophy. Muirfield, for instance, is just as tall but because they manage their roughs (presumably through burning), they lack the oddball grasses, weeds and other excess that will lead to lost balls this week. No one will be as lucky as Gary Player was in 1974.
There will be no iPhone videos early in the week showing off the course setup and design elements, as the entire notion of television rightholders might be brought down by a 30-second Twitvideo. And, I'd like to keep my credential for the duration.
So in lieu of moving pictures, some still shots from a rainy Monday at Lytham and St. Annes.
