Martin Flashback: Did Jack Really Support The Commissioner's Case Against Casey?

With Casey Martin qualifying for the U.S. Open at Olympic Club, it's worth revisiting his  2005 Golf Digest My Shot with Guy Yocom. There are a host of interesting comments, but this one about Jack Nicklaus is a nice reminder of how silly it was that the PGA Tour appealed Martin's request for a cart all the way to the Supreme Court before losing.

Shortly after Jack Nicklaus testified against me, I played a practice round with his son, Gary. We were friends and had played a lot together. Gary said, "Just so you know, the tour put a lot of pressure on my dad to testify, and I don't think he felt real great about doing it." I thought, Well, OK. But when I had some physical problems a year later, Jack phoned me. He wanted to know how I was doing and asked if he could do anything for me.

Here's my question of the day: had Martin been a Wounded Warrior, a cause dear to the PGA Tour's heart, would they have pursued their appeal all the way to the highest court in the land?
