US Open On ESPN: Duval Making His Television Debut

David Duval Joins ESPN’s U.S. Open Coverage as Golf Analyst
David Duval will trade in his golf clubs for a microphone as he makes his debut as a television analyst on ESPN’s coverage of the 112th U.S. Open this week at Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Duval, winner of 13 events and more than $18 million on the PGA TOUR, will be an analyst on feature group coverage that will air on ESPN3, ESPN’s multi-screen live sports network. The programming is available online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and through ESPN on Xbox LIVE.
“TV is definitely something that’s interesting and intrigues me,” said Duval. “I enjoy the game so much and I enjoy what’s going on in the game right now so much. The opportunity to do this presented itself and it worked out, so I thought this could be pretty fun.”
Duval had intended to play in the U.S. Open but did not qualify and indicated his work for ESPN should not be viewed as a signal he’s hanging up the clubs for good.
“I don’t want it to be seen as a transition because I don’t believe my playing career is over,” he said. “I know I’ve had a rough year but I’ve also been dealing with other small injuries that I haven’t talked about. But it (TV) is definitely something I’d like to do in the future.”
ESPN3 will have dedicated coverage of two featured groups of players in the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday and golf fans will be able to follow the rounds with exclusive live, shot-by-shot coverage on both days.
The first group of Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Adam Scott will tee off at 11:32 a.m. ET on Thursday and will be featured live exclusively on ESPN3. The coverage will then shift to the group of Rickie Fowler, Ryo Ishikawa and Dustin Johnson, which tees off at 4:58 p.m.
On Friday, Fowler, Ishikawa and Johnson begin at 11:43 a.m. and their round will air live on ESPN3. Bradley, Simpson and Scott start at 4:58 p.m. and will be featured in the second half of the coverage.
In addition to coverage of Marquee groups, ESPN3 will also provide exclusive Spanish coverage from 5-10 p.m. each day, as well as exclusive coverage of the 18th and 8th holes from noon-8 p.m. each day.
Duval will work with ESPN’s Trey Wingo, host of the feature group coverage, with co-analyst Bill Kratzert and on-course reporter Mark Donaldson.
