LANNY WADKINS JOINS GOLF CHANNEL TOURNAMENT TEAM FOR INSPERITY CHAMPIONSHIP
ORLANDO, Fla. (May 3, 2012) – Lanny Wadkins returns to television Friday after a five-year absence, serving as a lead analyst for Golf Channel’s coverage of the Insperity Championship on the Champions Tour.
Wadkins, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and who served as the lead golf analyst for CBS Sports from 2002-2006, will call the action with Golf Channel analyst Curt Byrum and play-by-play man Brian Hammons. This week’s tournament is scheduled to feature 26 of the top-30 players from the 2011 money list and six fellow members of the Hall of Fame, including Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin, Bernhard Langer, Tom Kite, Larry Nelson and Curtis Strange. This will be the first of what may be more future Golf Channel tournament appearances by Wadkins.
“I’m excited to work with my friends at the Golf Channel, talking about guys I played with and competed against for over 40 years,” said Wadkins.
Wadkins was recognized as one of the fiercest competitors and most-outspoken golfers during his playing days, which were highlighted by 21 PGA TOUR victories, four international wins and a major championship (1977 PGA Championship). He also captained the 1995 U.S. Ryder Cup team at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. He won the 1970 U.S. Amateur while attending Wake Forest University and was named Collegiate All-America in 1970 and 1971.
Golf Channel’s coverage of the Insperity Championship begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
