Trying To Better Understand Kevin Na's Plight
/I am typing through tears after reading John Huggan's movingly heartfelt take on Kevin Na's plight as a professional golfer unable to pull the trigger en route to Top 10 finishes. Of course, I often forget, Na was such a speedy player before this disease unwittingly grabbed ahold of his body, sometimes even lining up and hitting putts in under 2 minutes!
Anyway, Huggan, the big softie, talks to instructor Dale Lynch about Na's problem and concludes in this Scotland On Sunday column that some of us have not worked hard enough to understand the disease which has inhabited the young lad's torso.
Still, acknowledgement of Na’s on-going struggle has not been the prevalent reaction from a generally hard-hearted media over the last week or so. Rather than try to understand the problems facing him, many have focused instead the effect he has on the field’s pace of play. While it is true that the typically snail-like processions on the PGA Tour represent an ongoing problem, it is a bit of a stretch to place all of the blame at the door of a young man at least making an effort to fix his contribution to the long-term mess.
So he'll be taking 45 seconds or less on the greens someday? I'll believe it when I see it.
