"He's of good country stock and he's pretty resilient."
/Ben Everill (who broke the news on Twitter) and Melissa Woods offer an update on Jarrod Lyle and how he discovered the return of leukemia, reporting that his spirits are good.
He flew back to Australia last week and sought treatment from his local doctor in Shepparton after contracting an infection from a bug bite while playing in Mexico.
As a precaution, blood work was done and the shocking discovery was made.
Lyle's manager Tony Bouffler said the player was in good spirits and elated about the birth, which was expected late Friday night or Saturday.
"He's of good country stock and he's pretty resilient," Bouffler said.
"He's really excited about the baby."
