Luke Donald Endorses McGinley For '14 Ryder Cup Captaincy
/Paul McGinley, once a "shoo-in", but now an underdog based on recent comments from Padraig Harrington and endorsee/stablemate Lee Westwood, has received a powerful endorsement from former World No. 1 Luke Donald in the high stakes 2014 captainy race.
James Corrigan reports:
“I do believe that if Paul doesn’t get it this year, he probably won’t get it at all, whereas, I feel like Darren will have other opportunities,” said the former world No 1. “From a personal point of view, and probably because I have spoken a little bit more to Paul, I find him a little bit more outgoing with me.”
Donald, who has been on the winning side in all four of his Ryder Cup appearances, expanded on why he feels McGinley deserves the honour. “I would support McGinley as he’s been very diligent, very enthusiastic and whenever I have been around him I have enjoyed it,” he said. “He just has a really good team vibe. He seems to think about the small things. That’s just what I’ve noticed.”
Both future captains are playing this week in China, with Clarke holding a three shot advantage.
