Phil With His Driver On A Bike? Huh?
/Linked with Derek Lawrenson's golf column this week is an uncredited photo of Phil Mickelson launching this week's Barclays Scottish Open for sponsor Barclays by sitting on one of those bikes you can rent in London. Anyone know what the point of this is, besides awkward and unsafe?
Because I gotta say, this is just wrong on too many levels. Unless of course there is a charitable link, in which case I say it's a wonderful image, highly appropriate and frankly, a moving gesture.
**Reader David found the explanation at the Bettor.com blog: Phil cycled 447 miles to get to the Scottish Open!
The world number six addressed the press after cycling 447 miles to the venue. He said while speaking to reporters present at Castle Stuart, “I love playing the week before a Major and getting acclimatised. I feel on the time schedule and ready to play. Castle Stuart is co-designed by Gil Hanse, one of my favourite designers. I think he incorporates what a course should be – fun and exciting and some great holes like short par threes and driveable par fours.”
