The Last Heritage Classic...Before It Gets A New Sponsor?

I've read a lot of doom-and-gloom stories about the potential that this is the last Heritage Classic at Harbour Town and after reading Ron Green Jr.'s take, it sure sounds like efforts are being made and companies are flirting with signing on. And because you longtime readers know I'm always an optimist on these things, this sure sounds positive to me:

There is hope a title sponsor will be found and the tournament will continue on for many more years. Wilmot said the tournament was close enough to a deal with a sponsor six weeks ago that logos and contracts had been exchanged. Then it stalled.

This week, Wilmot said “six to eight” potential sponsors will be at Harbour Town, getting the full treatment that includes a heavy-handed push from South Carolina politicians who have engaged in the effort to save the tournament.

“It’s important for us to do everything we can to make this continue,” said Ty Votaw, PGA Tour executive vice president for communications and international affairs. “It has been a favorite among our players for years and has done wonderful things in terms of charitable impact and economic impact for the county and the state.

“We have a lot of people pulling in the same direction trying to make something happen.”
