Foley Singles Out Tiger Critics By Cuts Made, Promotional Ties To Slo-Mo Cameras

Thanks to reader Peter for sending along Jeff Brooke's story quoting Sean Foley about Tiger's critics.

Foley, attending the Golf & Travel Show last weekend to conduct clinics, didn’t address Trevino’s comments specifically but said many critics are being ignorant, sensational, unfair or all three.

“They don’t know the truth,” Foley said in the interview. “They don’t even have a clue. They just wait until he hits one to the right, then put it on the bizhub (a slow-motion camera) and slow it down. But he might not have committed to the club. He might not have trusted where the wind is and so on.”

PK! What say you?

“The crap that these guys are writing – golfchannel.com and all these different avenues of pure judgment on Tiger,” Foley said.

“When did (Golf Channel analyst) Brandel Chamblee and (NBC’s) Johnny Miller and guys like that forget how hard golf is when you have conflict and you don’t have clarity?

“Brandel Chamblee made 180 out of 398 cuts on the PGA Tour (in his playing days). Like, when did this become so easy for him? That’s like 43 per cent. You’re talking about a guy (Woods) who’s missed six cuts in his life. It’s just sensational. That’s what they do.”

I love Brandel, but uh Foley wins that one 6-2, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Jaime Diaz is the keenest observer of Tiger's game and as usual puts the swing issues into perspective for this Golf World Monday item:

Under Sean Foley, Tiger is attacking the problem with new information. Although his results haven't been consistent, he believes the quality of his good shots are better than ever. But what's becoming increasingly apparent is that Woods' problems are more mental than mechanical. For all the personal upheaval Woods has undergone, the effect has probably been underestimated. Getting over the guilt, loss of confidence and urge for self-punishment remain a higher hurdle for Woods than any swing issues.
