Somebody Has To Win WGC Cadillac At Doral; Tiger's Game Peaking On Eve Of TCup

Nick Watney won according to Doug Ferguson, who mercifully is paid to cover this stuff so some of us can enjoy the first day of Daylight Savings. Meanwhile Steve Elling tells us about the laugh line luggage looper Chad Reynolds uses to help his man Watney get the win.

But back to reality, this was all a backstory to Tiger Woods' 66, which would seem to raise hopes that he can carry his team to a Tavistock Cup win this week. Which even he jokes about.

Woods ended another ordinary week on a course he once dominated by matching his best score of the year with a 6-under 66 at Doral and tied for 10th, his best finish at an official PGA Tour event in nine months.
He also found his sense of humor.

"I'm putting the pieces together," Woods said. "Everything is kind of shaping up and heading the right direction, which is good, and peaking right at the right time ... for the Tavistock Cup."

He plays Monday and Tuesday in a made-for-TV exhibition.

I really have to take issue with calling it a made-for-TV exhibition. More like made-for-Guantanamo Bay interrogation room videos. This is waterboarding without the water.

Randall Mell says Tiger's Masters hopes were raised but these lengthy, wordy and I must say, eloquent answers.

Woods was asked if he thinks he’s “on track” for the Masters in a month.

“Oh yeah,” Woods said.

He was asked if he liked his chances.

“Mmmm-hmmm,” he said.

When he was his best and endured spells where his game was off, Woods always believed he was close to returning to form. He proved himself right so often, it was hard not to believe him, no matter how wayward he seemed.

It’s different now, but if Woods believes –  if he really believes – then Sunday was a breakthrough. Because breaking out of this slump seems to be as much about Woods’ confidence and belief in himself as it does his swing.
