Rory Dumps Chubby Just Days After Romantic China Adventure

Alistair Tait on another shocking move from Rory McIlroy: switching agents.

According to a Golfweek source, McIlroy broke the news to Chandler on Wednesday while the pair were in Bermuda at the PGA Grand Slam.

McIlroy still has major contracts brokered by ISM, including Jumeirah Estates in Dubai, Titleist and Rolex, to name a few. These contracts will remain in place even while McIlroy is with Horizon.

Besides McDowell, Horizon also represents Northern Ireland players Michael Hoey and Gareth Maybin, as well as England's Ross Fisher.

“This move had been coming for a while,” said Golfweek’s source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “There had been discussions during the season.”

Jim McCabe talked to Chandler just days ago about the duo's robust China swing. Chubby explained their final holiday together:

Actually, the scores had very little to do with the experience. Chandler said there were three reasons his players – McIlroy and Westwood – agreed to go.

“No. 1, the fee was very good, obviously,” he said. “No. 2, it was a chance for them to further their brands in China. But No. 3, it was an unbelievable chance to see parts of the world where we might never go again. This was one big adventure.”

Chandler and McIlroy talked of a trek into the northeast part of China that took them close to the Russian border and how it “looked like Scotland,” the agent said. Transported through the air aboard Challenger 850 and Challenger 605 private jets and on the ground by Rolls-Royces and Hummers, the players were greeted at each golf course by thousands of spectators, the majority of them young.
