Another Belly Convert: “It’s not what golf should look like. It’s just not cool.”

Randall Mell profiles the ultimate bubble boy--#125 James Driscoll--as he plays this week's Disney event with plenty on his mind.

Emily Kay talked Driscoll about his plans to go to the belly putter after the season and like many others, he is not shy in acknowledging that it feels wrong, looks wrong and well, is wrong (“I think it should be banned.”) He has lots of great stuff to say, but this was my favorite part:

“To me, putting is about controlling your nerves and there’s a certain art to it,” he said.

“[Anchoring something against your body] eliminates a lot of that. I think it’s a shame.”

Driscoll likened the use of long putters to employing verboten practice tools during a competitive round, which LPGA Tour star Juli Inkster certainly knows is a definite no-no.

“It’s like me playing a round with a golf glove under my right elbow as a training device,” he said.
