The template would be the same if other sports followed the N.H.L.’s example: an all-access look at a short part of the season that leads to a climax. The Winter Classic — which is played outdoors — is a contrived but spectacular concluding point during the season, something that other leagues don’t quite have. Uh, we're talking about guys who want even wear a wireless microphone because they are afraid of being caught on tape admiring a women in the gallery or discussing the highly sensitive nature of a five-iron versus a six-iron, so I'm guessing a less filtered HBO documentary-style show is out of the question. If it's not in the cards for TV, they sure won't do it for HBO.
