One Down, Two To Go: Atlanta Athletic Gives Up '13 NCAA's
/Some nights blogging is just so difficult, especially when the emotions take over and you have to read the painful news delivered by Sean Martin that Atlanta Athletic's crammed schedule of major professional and amateur events is one lighter after the 2013 NCAA Men's Championship was wisely yanked will be moved.
Though I must say I'm shocked and bewildered that someone in Far Hills might have taken offense at the already-announced 2014 U.S. Amateur somehow getting upstaged or tainted by the awarding of the 2013 NCAA. I mean, who could have seen that potential conflict coming? Probably not my buddy at the club.
A new site has not been announced. The tournament was moved because of concerns about the club, in suburban Johns Creek, hosting two major amateur events in consecutive years. The Atlanta Athletic Club is scheduled to host the 2014 U.S. Amateur.
It is unknown what other courses might be interested in hosting the 2013 NCAAs.
NCAA officials contacted by Golfweek would not comment.
Atlanta Athletic was the site of four major championships – the 1976 U.S. Open, 1981 and 2001 PGA Championships and the 1990 U.S. Women’s Open.
AAC will be the site of the 2011 PGA.
Unfortunately.
