WGC Match Play Final Going To 18?
/I was taken aback by the policy board appearing likely to veto the designated tournaments, as reported by Sean Martin. So I went back to read it and I still can't fathom how such an intelligent policy change designed to help struggling events was nixed.
Anyway, in Martin's piece I didn't notice this buried item the first time around:
Another change likely to come out of the upcoming Policy Board meeting: the WGC-Match Play final likely will be reduced to 18 holes and played the same day as semifinals to avoid the lopsided 36-hole matches that make for bad TV.
So does this mean a Thursday start and semi's on Sunday with the final right after. Personally, I think that's more than enough to decide the winner and will make for better television. A very good thing.
Of course designated tournaments that make stars turn up a few places they wouldn't now and then would make for good television too.
