Today's Twitter Wars And Other Assorted Embarrassing Tweets

Seems we have a nice little Twitter spat developing between SI's Alan Shipnuck and Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin:

Or is it Mrs. Pavin putting the kibosh on Shipnuck?

And Stephanie Wei highlights an adorable Natalie Gulbis mistake. Make that, two mistakes.

See, Bivens Was A Visionary!

Granted, wrong tour, but look at the insights we could glean if players were allowed to Tweet mid round.

As Stephanie Wei notes, the USGA says there's nothing in the rules that forbids the use of an electronic device during a round. However, I thought we decided this was a no-no since with Twitter or any phone that a player could receive advice?

"Go thing I have already looked my card up for next year! Your Welcome."

"Your Welcome" would be the gramatically challenged catch-phrase Bubba Watson is sporting under his Twitter persona.

FYI, his self-proclaimed bio on Twitter:

"Christian, Husband, Pro Golfer who enjoys giving back to help others grow in life! You're welcome.

Thanks to reader Jim for the heads up on his latest Tweet, which will not do much to negate stereotypical characterizations of men named Bubba.

Monty: Poulter Is Dead To Me!

Okay maybe that's a bit harsh, but you do have to wonder if we have a budding love triangle featuring Faldo-Poulter-Monty after the next Ryder Cup Captain let it be known that he was not pleased Ian Poulter passed on the Seve Trophy. And that was without reading Poulter's Tweets today, which started off recounting his hangover and then appeared to be hijacked by his agent to extol the virtues of family time and gym time. It's all quite touching I tell you.

"PGA Tour big bird didn't like this tweet"

Steve Elling reports that master Tweeter Stewart Cink heard from The Man Wednesday after Tweeting about AT&T's wretched (I can attest!) cell coverage.

That's when Commissioner Tim Finchem called to ask him to stop ragging on key PGA Tour sponsors on his Twitter site. AT&T is the title sponsor at events in Pebble Beach and Washington, D.C., and now stands as the lone sponsor of multiple events on the U.S. tour.

Cink was somewhat amused by it all. Later, when he got to the course, he was asked by another tour official to take down the posting, which he did. Eventually.

The offending Tweets:

Tiger Will Not Be Fined, But I Bet These Boys Will Be!

Tiger at Hazeltine today:

Q. Have you heard from the TOUR regarding Sunday and the fine, and also, you're not a guy that typically putts his cards out on the table, and Padraig was in here earlier saying that it was easier for you having won the tournament to say what you said, and he felt in his position he would keep his mouth shut; why do you feel you had to say what you said if you felt that you needed to, and is there a point to be made with that, put your whistles away at the end of a game and let the players decide it?
TIGER WOODS: Okay, what part of your question do you want me to answer first? (Laughter).

Q. First have you heard from the TOUR?
TIGER WOODS: Yes, I've heard from the TOUR and there's no fine that. Was an erroneous report.

Now I know they haven't hired the VP of PGA Tour Tweet Monitoring yet, but I'm getting a vibe that stuff like this will force their hand. Ian Poulter Tweeted a photo the other day and then apologized after apparently getting a lot of complaints, which is why the image and a couple of other Tweets sounding a wee bit iffy subsequently came down!

And the lovely image, not to mention wonderful plug for MarquisJet from today's Trevinos:
