Philadelphia Cricket Club Lands 2020 Four-Ball

Outside of greater Philadelphia I suspect no one cares where the USGA's new Four-Ball Championship is headed in five years.

But Mike Kern's exclusive on the restored Philadelphia Cricket landing the 2020 edition would appear to have ramifications in the major championship world. Kern writes:

The Wissahickon course, which opened in 1922, just underwent an extensive restoration that has generated nothing but positive reviews. The adjacent Militia layout, which will only be utilized for the qualifying portion of the competition, was built in 2002.

While it's purely speculation at this point, hosting the Four-Ball could always be viewed as an audition for attracting something even more prestigious later on.

Oh let's speculate.

PCC hosts the PGA's PNC this year.  That's the old PGA Club Professional Championship, one of the two audition-friendly events for a PGA Championship. However, with the only open PGA dates coming in 2021 and 2023 and Trump Bedminster hosting the PGA 2022, logic would suggest 2024 as the earliest date possible for PCC.

Meanwhile, it's hard to imagine the USGA going back to Philadelphia with a U.S. Open at a course not named Merion.

But either way, a grand Tillinghast design is back and hosting quality events, and that's all that really matters.
