Ian Mallon and Jerome Reilly cite unnamed sources suggesting that Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki have split up just weeks after attending a wedding and getting a dog named Bruno together.

Though sources confirm the break-up to the Independent, it appears the change in Twitter profile photos gave editors the assurances necessary to run with the news even though McIlroy denied earlier this week that was a definitive sign as a change in his life.

However, instead of announcing any break-up, he said: "Uh-huh, yeah, it's all good. Just because we changed our Twitter profile picture doesn't mean that we're not together. But yeah, it's all good." The golden couple's amorous postings to each other on Twitter had legions of followers, and fans became concerned when they changed their profile pictures on the networking site to solo photos of themselves rather than "him and her" shots.
