I stopped by Ponte Vedra Inn and marveled at Herbert Strong's 17th hole.

Embarrassed to say all of these years I’ve never given Ponte Vedra Inn’s 1928 Herbert strong design a close look. Walked six holes and all packed with strategy and inspired touches. Could post about all but for now will share the crazy par 4 17th with the largest Principal’s Nose ever. Massively wide, views of green from far sides and a deep bunker short of the raised green makes the far right drive perhaps the best angle. And the earth moving! Straight fire, as the kids today say. #golfarchitecture #pontevedrainnandclub #herbertstrong

This is something our fine leaders have rewarded in the We Are Golf era by going after tax breaks for golf courses as green spaces, nearly revoking the PGA Tour and PGA of America's tax exempt status, and coming this year, eliminating entertainment deductions that could wildly impact the industry. Sand Valley celebrated Earth Day with a message about their efforts.

Happy Earth Day! Since the land on which Sand Valley sits was first purchased in 2013 our team has been committed to restoring the 1,700 acres to its natural habitat: jack pine barrens, grasslands, and oak savannahs. These habitats are crucial to the survival and growth of three State and Federally listed endangered and threatened species: the Kirtland Warbler, Karner Blue Butterfly, and Slender Glass Lizard. We are thrilled to announce the Kirtland Warbler has been removed from the Federal endangered species list this April! The songbird numbers are improving in Wisconsin through the maintaining and expanding of the Warbler’s habitat of jack pine trees and barrens. The Kirtland Warbler does not yet meet criteria in Wisconsin to remove the Warbler from the State’s endangered species list, so conservation efforts will continue to help grow their population. Sand Valley is celebrating the removal from the Federal list by continuing to restore, conserve, and grow the habitat for the Kirtland Warbler. Happy Earth Day from the Sand Valley team!

It seemed like no one could hit a decent putt Sunday at Harbour Town--I blame the early wake up call to get play in before storms--but Satoshi Kodaira made a beauty on the third hole of sudden death for his first PGA Tour win. He had never finished better than 28th in limited PGA Tour play. That 28th was at last week's Masters, so of course we should have seen this coming.

With rough weather forecast Sunday, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic played 36 Saturday and Steve Flesch won on the second playoff hole. It's the first PGA Tour Champions win for one of the good ones, though we may need to work on the hat removal timing:
